Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu
In 2002, SA Partners established its Desmond Tutu Award to pay homage to Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, an extraordinary human being and champion of peace and justice. Each year the Award is presented to an individual whose work aspires to the values so powerfully illuminated by Archbishop Tutu's many years of service.
SA Partners was honored to present the 2004 Desmond Tutu Award to renowned actor and social justice activist, Danny Glover. The Award celebrates Danny Glover's more than four decades of support for freedom and democracy in South Africa and his continued commitment to global peace and justice. At the celebration, SA Partners also had the pleasure of presenting two International Partnership Awards that honored ongoing partnerships with South Africa. Eli J. Segal was honored for his efforts to promote citizen service in South Africa through the establishment of City Year's Clinton Democracy Fellowship. A second award was presented to Codman Square Health Center for its partnership activities with the Masimanyane Women's Support Centre of South Africa, which include a curriculum connecting HIV/AIDS and domestic violence and a Technology Center established at the A.W. Barnes Primary School that is linked to Codman Square and Dorchester House's Community Technology Center and Codman Academy Charter School.
